Ottocento

For the first time the Scuderie del Quirinale hosts an exhibition dedicated entirely to the Italian 19th century painting. Despite its great historic past and national independence that the country acquired in the 19th century, this was also the period when it faced decline and loss of the leading role on the international arena. The only names that got international recognition at the time were the sculptor Canova and painters Boldini and Segantini.

The exhibition is a kind of a challenge aimed to show how the Italian artists worked in such a tough historical environment and tried to keep up with the Italian tradition. There are some 100 masterpieces selected by the experts. Discover works by the members of the Romantic School in Milan, Macchiaioli in Florence, Posillipo school in Naples and others. The exhibition is opened until 10 June 2008.
