Moscow Ballet In RomeGiselle is one of the best ballets ever staged. It is originally choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot to the music of Adolphe Adam. The libretto was written by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Theophile Gautier. The plot is built around the eternal theme: love. A young charming girl named Giselle falls in love with a man who calls himself Loys. In reality he is Albrecht, a noblemen, who only pretends to be a peasant. Moreover, he is engaged to Bathilde, the daughter of the Duke. When poor Giselle finds out the truth, she goes insane and dies. According to one version, she dies of a broken heart, whereas the other version says she commits a suicide. But her love lingers on and helps Albrecht escape the sinister magic of the wilis, the ghosts of the betrothed girls who were betrayed by their fiancés. The two lovers promise always to love each other and Giselle returns into her grave never to go out again. From 31 December 2007 Teatro Carcano is hosting the Moscow Ballet "Giselle". With the choreography by Alexander Vorotnikov, this is one of the best versions of the famous ballet. Don't miss the event!
