ANDY WARHOLL AND ALL, ALL, ALL…

Since 9 November Rome hosts the largest exhibition of pop art ever run in Italy. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm and the Hayward Gallery in London are among the institutions that have loaned works for the show at the Scuderie del Quirinale, which features around 100 paintings, sculptures and assemblages.
The movement of pop art began in mid 50s in the UK and very quickly spread all over the world. The specialists say it gained such a popularity due to the fact that it erased the borders between high and low cultures, making music, images from films, magazines and advertising objects of art.
The exhibition counts four sections. The first one is devoted to the invasion of the consumer society into the world of art. The pictures depict images of household utensils of a larger-than-life size.
The second section is devoted to famous politicians, starlets, actresses and sportsmen (the well-known portrait of Marilyn Monroe is also on display!).
The third part deals with characters from comic strips and historical personalities.
The last section focuses on the erotically depicted parts of human body.
Don't miss the captivating event that is run at the Scuderie del Quirinale until January 27 2008.
