On 6 January Italy is celebrating a religious holiday called Befana. There is a legend that when the Three Wise Man were making their way to the newborn Jesus they stopped to ask an old woman named La Befana to let them in for a night. She rejected to do that, and the travelers had to continue their way tired and hungry. Shortly after their leaving, the woman looked at the sky, saw the North Star and repented her bad behaviour. She collected toys of her late child and set off to search for the Infant Jesus. But she never managed to find him so she continues to ramble around the world and leave presents for the kids trying to find the Christ Child.
The date is celebrated by Eastern and Western Churches, but there's a difference in the historical events the feast commemorates. Anyway the meaning is the same: the manifestation of the Christ to the world and the Mystery of the Incarnation.
