John McLaughlin

A jazz fusion guitarist from England, John McLaughlin, performs May 13th with his band, 4th Dimension: Mark Mondesir on drums, Gary Husband on keyboards and Hadrien Feraud on bass.

McLaughlin is known as an influential and technically gifted guitar player, «skilled» at various music styles, from jazz to Indian classical music and Flamenco. After moving to the US in the 1969 he subsequently played with Miles Davis on his «Bitches Brew» and «On the Corner» albums, and with Carlos Santana in 1973. His bands that preceded the 4th Dimension were the Mahavishnu Orchestra and acoustic group Shakti. Visit the event at Stazione Birra club.

May Day Music Festival

On the 1-st of May Rome celebrates the arrival of spring with a gigantic and widely televised music festival in Piazza San Giovanni, which attracts musicians from all over the world.

The line-up is only released a few days before the event, but you can expect performances by the likes of Hard-Fi, Skin and Marlene Kuntz, who have all played in the past.

The festival was instituted in 1989 and has quickly become an important part of the Roman cultural calendar, as well as a major national and international event.

Festival begins at 2pm and ends at 11pm. Entrance is free.

Palladio 500: Journalist Award

This year Italy is celebrating the 500th anniversary of Andrea Palladio's birth. A series of festive events will be held in Vicenze, "the city of Palladio", as well as throughout the whole country. Mass media will give a full coverage of the coming events, and in the end of the year special prizes will be awarded to the journalists for best articles and television reports about the great architect.
The participation at the competition is allowed to people who are registered as licensed journalists and freelance journalists, whose articles will be published on newspapers with regional, national and international circulation, on magazines with national and international circulation and whose television reports will be produced in Italy and broadcast at Italian or international level.
The award is divided in three categories: articles published in the Italian press, articles published in the international press, television reports produced in Italy and broadcast in Italy or abroad.

Paul Gauguin: A Man Of Talent

Paul Gauguin is one of the most famous French painters. He began to paint at the mature age after he disappointed in the everyday life of a stock broker. Unexpectedly for everyone he left his family in Copenhagen and moved to Paris. Gauguin experimented with different art styles, passing the way from impressionism to synthetism. One of the best works by the author were created in Tahiti, where he has always dreamed to reside. Gauguin's pictures are very colourful, full of mythical characters and sunlight. These days the Romans and the guests of the capital can enjoy his dreamy works in Vittoriano museum. The exhibition takes place until 3 February. Hurry up!
