Roman Victories

An important event at one of the main attractions of Rome: until September 14, 2008 the Roman Colosseo hosts an exhibition "Roman victories." Romans were known as great warriors, and the success of the Roman Empire greatly depended on military conquest. The bas-reliefs, sculptures, paintings, bronzes and other objects displayed at the exhibition will help you get a closer look at Roman victories through the story of festivities and ceremonies that surrounded those big battles. The exhibition is divided into three sections. The first relates to victories and their development, from the Etruscan to the Hellenistic worlds, the second is dedicated to the great leaders and victors that lead the battles, as well as the ones defeated (Caesar, Pompeius and Octavian are among the most significant names here). It also reproduces the battle scenes. And the last section tells us about the peoples conquered by the Romans: the Greeks, the Judeans, the Dacians and the Barbarians.

The Feast Of The Immaculate Conception

December is the month of pilgrimage. Believers from all over the world as well as Roman Catholics get together to lay wreaths to the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Piazza di Spagna to commemorate the Feast Of The Immaculate Conception.

The date was officially instituted in 1854 although the cult of the Virgin Mary purity has a long history. Some people erroneously think that this is the immaculate conception of Jesus that is celebrated but in fact this is a celebration of conception of Mary herself. The theory of the Virgin immaculate conception, nevertheless, is not accepted by the Eastern Christians. But they also celebrate December 9 as the Feast of the Conception by St. Anne of the Most Holy Theotokos.
