Al Kamandjati

Music has always been a force that unites people. No matter who you are and where you were born, you are able to understand, feel, compose and perform it, as music isn't a privilege, but a right of all. To ensure this right Ramzi Aburedwan, a Palestinian musician, founded in 2005 a music school in a refugee camp on the outskirts of Ramallah, thus giving the locals a possibility to study viola, guitar, violin and accordion.
Ramzi Aburedwan himself was born in a refugee camp. When the Israeli tanks invaded the territory, he was among the boys who launched stones into the tanks. The photo became famous and made him the symbol of the first Intifada.
In 1999 he joined the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra founded by Daniel Barenboim. The story of Ramzi Aburedwan seemed inspiring to many prominent people, who decided to tell this story in words, music and video. Among people taking part in the project are Amira Hass, Haaretz correspondent, the only Israeli journalist living in the West Bank; Franghiz Ali Zadeh, the Islam composer; Moni Ovadia, who has always been indifferent to the Palestinian question; Mohammad Bakri, the most popular and beloved Palestinian actor; Yannis Kounellis, one of the greatest contemporary artists; Ramzi himself with teachers and students of Al Kamandjati and many others.
The event called Al Kamandjati will take place in ROMA AUDITORIUM PARCO DELLA MUSICA from 29 November to 1 December.
