The celebrated British musician, the former lead guitarist of a legendary rock band Dire Straits - Mark Knopfler - arrives June 6 to the Roman Palalottomatica to perform in support of his latest album "Kill to Get Crimson" (released in Spetember 2007).

The famous guitar virtuoso is noted for being left-handed while playing a right-handed guitar without using a pectrum. His first solo album, Golden Heart, was released after the Dire Straits disbanded in 1996 - all in all, you can find eight albums by the artist. He has also played with some other bands like The Notting Hillbillies and collaborated with famous artists such as Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bryan Ferry, Emmylou Harris, John Fogerty and others. Next month the Leonardo da Vinci airport in Rome will open a new terminal for some flights leaving for the United States and Israel. The Terminal 5 will open May 3rd and will host travelers flying to the above-mentioned destinations with Continental Airlines, American Airlines, United and US Airways (USA) and El Al (Israel). Note that Alitalia's flights to these destinations will continue to leave from the Leonardo da Vinci airport's main terminal for intercontinental flights.

The Terminal was presented to the media on Thursday. According to the airport director Vitaliano Turra, construction of the terminal is connected with the necessity of extra security checks because "security is a sensitive issue for travelers flying to these particular destinations." The terminal will have a "profiling area" where security staff will interview travelers before check-ins. Airport officials expect that initially the terminal will host almost one million passengers a year. Its total capacity is three million.

The Biblioteca Angelica decided to mark the International Women's Day by organizing a special meeting, devoted to women and their activities in the society. Floriana Viola, the famous Italian painter, will be the special guest of the event (the exhibition of her works takes place at the Galleria Angwlica until March 15). The visitors will have a chance to talk to the artist and to hear her interpretations of the pictures. Also the event will be appointed by famous Italian women writers Elisabetta Rasy, Paola Urbani, Manola Venzo and Gabriella Bonacchi, who will read extracts from their brand-new books. The topical debates will follow.

The municipality of Rome together with Agis, Anec Lazio and Anem opened a "contact centre", the first joint system of services in Italy, which is able to process and give information about cultural events, performances, shows and different tourist services in the city.

   In the time of globalisation the borders between the countries become more and more vague. The Romaeuropa Festival is organized to underline the cooperation and mark friendship between different states. It is characterized by an extremely miscellaneous programming, which includes dance, theater, contemporary art and electronic music.
   There are five main subjects the festival focuses on. They are: Art and Technology (the relationships between the man and the work), Old Stories, New Glimpses (figures, themes and sounds of classical heritage in original forms), Orients (the communication between the East and the West), Transformations (remixed sounds, bodies and images), Nightline (Rome night life insight).
   The Romaeuropa Festival is held from 7 November to 15 December.
