FotoGrafia. Rome International Festival of Photography

Rome hotels GlobResUntil May 25th 2008 Palazzo delle Esposizioni houses an exhibition "FotoGrafia. Rome International Festival of Photography", which is an excellent opportunity to see the most interesting and innovative tendencies in the photography world. This year the event takes place for the seventh time and the basic subject chosen for 2008 is "Seeing normality. Photography portrays daily life". The choice of works, therefore, shows that "photography is the best instrument to describe every day life: a concept that comes from a will to tell normality in opposition to extraordinary", as the exhibition's artistic director Marco Delogu comments. The FotoGrafia-Festival is promoted by Comune di Roma and produced by Zoneattive. Visitors can discover works by such artists as Milton Gendel, David Farrell, Miguel Rio Branco, Claudia Jaguaribe, Paolo Woods and others.

New Holiday In Italy

Rome hotels GlobRes ListThe Italian government introduced another holiday. Since 2008 the second of March is officially "The Forgotten Railroad Day". The event was organized to restore the importance of railroads, which nowadays are considered to be minor but could be a good alternative to the principal railroads due to the rapid development of the new kind of tourism.
The length of the abandoned railroad way makes about 5,000 km, and this figure increases day after day because high-speed ways are constructed throughout the whole country. The new holiday aims to help people reopen the forgotten routes, which lead to the old-fashioned settlements. The vacation in such peaceful corners becomes more and more popular since the city dwellers are tired of their hectic way of life and want to find a tranquil getaway.

Operetta Time

"The Marry Widow" is one of the most famous operettas in the world. It is based on the comedy play "L'attache d'ambassade"(1861) by Henri Meilhac. The music was written by Franz Lehar, the original libretto was composed by Viktor Leon and Leo Stein. The premier took place at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna on December 30, 1905 with Mizzi Günther as Hanna, Louis Treumann as Danilo, Siegmund Natzler as Baron Zeta and Annie Wünsch as Valencienne.
The plot is built around Hanna's attempts to find a new husband. The widow inherits a fortune from her late husband and Baron Zeta, the ambassador of the Pontevedro, wants her to marry another Pontevedrian so that her money stayed in the country and saved it from the bankruptcy...
More than a century the operetta hits a great success wherever it is performed. Teatro dell'Opera is hosting the show up to 30 December. Don't miss the event!

History “On Stage”

"On Stage" ("In Scaena") is the title of the exhibition that has been open since 4 October in the famous Roman Colosseum. Its visitors have a unique chance to follow the history of the Roman theater from the third century BC to the sixth century, the time of the Barbarian danger.
The exhibition shows the influence of Greek culture upon the Roman theater. In fact, the traditions of the Roman theater are based on the Greek model. However, the Romans managed to surpass the theater founders, making the performances even more spectacle and sumptuous.
Lots of theatrical objects are on view: comic and tragic masks, mosaics and terracotta, vases from the world museums. Painted works showing stage performances, statues (the most famous of which is that of Dionysus, the Roman god of sex and wine), musical instruments (ancient flutes, cymbals and a pipe organ are among them) can also be seen within the walls of the Colosseum.
Don't miss one of the most interesting cultural events of the autumn/winter.
