Valerii Mausoleum Renovated

Those who head for Rome might also want to visit the Vatican City, especially when it has opened its newly-renovated Valerii Mausoleum.

The Valerii Mausoleum is the largest and the most outstanding mausoleum in the vast necropolis under St. Peter's Basilica. The building dates back to the second century and is known for its rich stucco decorations, which, unfortunately, had been damaged by the unstable microclimate in the necropolis and the usage of inappropriate materials for the earlier restorations.

Restoration took 10 months. Workers used scalpels, mini drills and lasers to recompose the details of the mausoleum. Another feature is a glass cover enclosing the building so as to keep the microclimate stable and the new illumination perfect to enjoy the mausoleum in detail.

Moscow Ballet In Rome

Giselle is one of the best ballets ever staged. It is originally choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot to the music of Adolphe Adam. The libretto was written by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Theophile Gautier.

The plot is built around the eternal theme: love. A young charming girl named Giselle falls in love with a man who calls himself Loys. In reality he is Albrecht, a noblemen, who only pretends to be a peasant. Moreover, he is engaged to Bathilde, the daughter of the Duke. When poor Giselle finds out the truth, she goes insane and dies. According to one version, she dies of a broken heart, whereas the other version says she commits a suicide. But her love lingers on and helps Albrecht escape the sinister magic of the wilis, the ghosts of the betrothed girls who were betrayed by their fiancés. The two lovers promise always to love each other and Giselle returns into her grave never to go out again.

From 31 December 2007 Teatro Carcano is hosting the Moscow Ballet "Giselle". With the choreography by Alexander Vorotnikov, this is one of the best versions of the famous ballet. Don't miss the event!
