For the first time the Scuderie del Quirinale hosts an exhibition dedicated entirely to the Italian 19th century painting. Despite its great historic past and national independence that the country acquired in the 19th century, this was also the period when it faced decline and loss of the leading role on the international arena. The only names that got international recognition at the time were the sculptor Canova and painters Boldini and Segantini.
Spring has arrived in Rome! Every year a special festival "May Day" is held in the Roman capital to celebrate this great event. On 1 May Piazza San Giovanni turns into a musical area hosting such performers like Skin, Hard-Fi and Marlene Kuntz. It is unknown, who will take part in the festival this year as the list of the participants is usually kept in secret and announced shortly before the start. But one can be sure that the "May Day" show will be an impressive one!
Sebastiano del Piombo (born Sebastiano Luciani) was an Italian Renaissance-Mannerist painter of the beginning of the 16th century famous for his combination of the colors of the Venetian school and the monumental forms of the Roman school. The goal of the exhibit is to cover the whole Rothko's creative work, paying attention to the author's constant striving for presenting his work through thoroughly selected groups or artwork, designed to intensify the visual impact of the single works.
The exhibition demonstrates different periods of the author's creative work: from the figurative canvases to the surreal works, from the "Multiforms" to the classic works of the 50's leading up to the "Black form" and "Black on Grey" paintings. This is the first try to reconstruct some of the paintings displayed in the "Mark Rothko Room" at the Venice Biennale in 1958, which met with great success.
One of the artist's works holds the world record for the highest paid modern artwork, being sold by Sotheby's for 72.8 million dollars.
Many know the Museo Barracco, founded by the collector Giovanni Barracco, as a museum containing prestigious collections of antique sculpture. However, until 8 June 2008 the museum plays hosts to contemporary art, with works by Paolo Delle Monache displayed at the venue within the "Ex-volto" exhibition. 25 sculptures represent the images of a human and its surroundings and seem to feel quite at home among the ancient masterpieces from Syria, Egypt, Cypress, Phoenicia, Greece and Rome.
No matter whether you're a professional designer or simply like to rearrange the world around, you'll certainly enjoy the event that is taking place from 25 April to 4 May at Fiera di Roma. Called "Moa Casa", this is a leading furniture and design show, which gives an opportunity to see (as well as to discuss) the latest trends in the world of design, to ask experts for advice, to buy the presented items and to get inspired by the many ideas of the exhibition.
